5 Factors That Cause Hip Pain

If you have been watching films, you would think only poor people get hip pain. Believe it or not, it can attack young people too. However, the causes of hip pain differ between these demographics. Older adults mainly experience it due to their age, while young people get it due to trauma or athletic injuries.

While it should disappear, sometimes it may not due to certain conditions. As such, hip pain West Orange specialists have identified dislocation, bone cancer, osteoporosis, bursitis, and fracture as the culprits for the sensation. To understand hip pain better, here are details about each culprit below.

Dislocation

During a dislocation, the hip’s ball joint comes out of its socket. As a result, you will suffer acute pain, and your leg will be partially paralyzed. Hip dislocations can be caused by trauma (e.g., road accidents) or hip dysplasia.

As soon as you experience a dislocation, you should immediately seek help. If you do not, you will receive complications such as nerve damage, arthritis, and osteonecrosis. Doctors remedy this problem by moving your joint back in place with much force.

Bone Cancer

Bone cancers are malignant tumors that multiply due to the abnormal growth of bone cells. As they reside in the hip, they cause pain since they cause the bones to weaken. Soon, your hip will begin to swell, and that can disrupt your sleep. Bone cancer can be caused by radiation exposure, genetics, and stem cell transplants.

Doctors may treat the condition surgically through amputations or limb salvage surgery. Another treatment involves administering medications such as pain medications and cytotoxic drugs.

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis may cause temporary bone loss in the upper part of the femur. It does that by weakening the femoral head, and if nothing is done, the femur can break. Before that happens, you will experience sudden pain, especially while walking or doing other labor-intensive tasks.

One of the cures for this condition is non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) such as naproxen and ibuprofen. Another treatment for osteoporosis is physical therapy.

Bursitis

Bursitis causes inflammation of the bursa (sac near the hip’s ball joint), hence the hip pain. The condition is normally caused by stress on the soft tissues, injury, laborious work, and incorrect posture. It typically affects women and senior citizens.

Doctors treat this condition through physiotherapy techniques that include a range of motion. They complement this treatment with medications like NSAIDs. If all these fail, they will consider surgery as a last resort.

Fracture

The risk of getting hip fractures increases the more you age. That is because your bones gradually weaken. Once you get a fracture, you will need to seek immediate care. You will know you have it when you cannot get up and experience severe pain in the hip and groin.

Surgeons employ a combination of surgery, medication, and rehabilitation to treat the fracture.

If you ever get hip pain, you should not panic. Sometimes it occurs as a result of the way you are sitting. In that case, the pain will go away on its own. When it does, ensure you sit properly. However, you should see a doctor if the pain does not disappear. Besides treating your problem, your doctor will advise you on techniques to apply to avoid hip pains.

Lastly, the best way to avoid getting hip pains is by doing moderate exercises. You can consider cycling, walking, or jogging for 30 minutes daily.
