The New Normal: How Indian Families Embrace Online Rummy

Rummy is a card game that originated in the late 19th or early 20th century. It is a famous game that requires the players to have strategic capabilities, quick-thinking skills, cognitive abilities, and decision-making skills.

India has been home to this game for a long time now, and people who know cards know how to play Rummy, as well. It is a game loved by one and all. It is a great way to spend time with friends and family.

However, the game is now digital and everyone has learnt how to play Rummy online! Let us see how Indians are coping with the digital era of Rummy games.

Introduction of Rummy To India 

Rummy was introduced to India during the British colonial era. At first, the game was enjoyed by the elite class, Raja and Maharajas of the nation, along with the British. However, it started to spread among the masses in no time.

With the level of engagement and captivation it offered, people were engrossed in the game in no time. As time passed, Rummy became the game of every man and found its way to every part of the country. 

As it travelled, it evolved. Indian Rummy has various variants due to several regional influences.

Rummy Gameplays

At first, the game was played on the rooftops, Chaarpai (beds), Dhaabas (food stalls), marriage ceremony halls, and living rooms. However, as it became more popular businesses began incorporating this game in dedicated card rooms and bars. 

Then comes the digital revolution!

The Digital Era

The digital revolution has given rise to online gaming platforms for other games and for Rummy. Today, there are several applications that host Rummy games and tournaments online that Indians can partake in. 

Indian Families and Rummy Applications

As the average Indian family started to have access to smartphones for ease of communication, these devices evolved to become much more than that; they are also a source of entertainment. 

With the boost in online Rummy platforms, Indians started playing Rummy online. According to a survey, the majority of the worldwide Rummy players are Indians. Nowadays, Indian families have found their safe haven for Rummy time with their mobiles and Rummy apps

The families have embraced this aspect of the game wholeheartedly and own the online space. They are now incorporating online Rummy sessions in their leisure time!

Conclusion

It is only fair to say that online Rummy is the favourite pastime for average Indian families. Since Indians have always been fans of strategies, plotting and winning, Rummy gives them more reasons to engage in it. 

Rummy enables togetherness, and Indian families embrace this togetherness with digital applications!
